Between Care, Cost Pressure and Hopelessness – How the System Erodes Care
Rising rents, falling real wages, exhausted care workers, growing loneliness – not isolated crises, but symptoms of the same structural problem. Economic pressure pushes people into a corner: those fighting for basic needs have no energy left for relationships, community, or volunteering. Care work doesn’t disappear – it is made invisible, and the costs reappear later, elsewhere, and often at a higher price. Women bear this burden disproportionately: they perform most unpaid care work and, as low earners, are hit twice by inflation. Why? Because a politics of short-term relief shifts the real costs onto younger and poorer populations. The workshop explores this with plain language, concrete examples, and open discussion.

Breaking power structures: Socialising energy companies
Many people are frustrated – in society and within the climate justice movement. Instead of despair, we want to build a concrete vision for the future: socialising the German energy sector. Expropriating RWE and Co., transferring them to public ownership, managing them participatively, and aligning them with the common good. For us, this also means phasing out coal, oil, and gas as quickly as possible. After all, fossil fuels fuel the climate crisis, entrench neo-colonial exploitation, drive up electricity prices, and exacerbate social injustices. The talk explores why socialisation could accelerate the energy transition, strengthen social cohesion, and reduce injustices – and what a socialised enterprise might look like in practice.
