Translation at the camp

Language is Power – and language barriers are therefore just another kind of power hierarchies.

We see the work towards inclusiveness, and this means also considering language, the barriers it creates and how to reduce them, above all as a collective task!

We ask all participants to take up co-responsibility for making the camp space as accessible as possible for everyone. This also includes checking-in with people around you – on the camp-site generally and in workshops – if they have needs in terms of interpretation or explanations regarding the input.

At the same time we will provide 2 other lines of interpretation:

• AI translated program slots:
  There is the possibility for AI-based* transcription and translation of input of two slots at the time into different languages. Translations will then be accessible via a website that every participant can have on their phone. Which program slots are translated will be indicated on the program board on the camp site.
• analog intepretation by volunteer interpreters:
  We will interpret additional program slots with the support of volunteer interpreters (that could also be you!).
  Which program slots will be interpreted and in which languages depends on the availbailities of interpreters and will be decided together with the participants who look for interpretation on the camp site.
  It will also be indicated on the program board on the camp site one day ahead of the respective program slots.

Note: There is also one tent with English-only content (other tents might also have English language contributions), so already check the camp program online!

*The translation runs on local servers and is shown on a by us created website. It is agreed with input holders beforehand that their input can be recorded for that matter. AI-based translation will be used for mainly one-directional input only.
