Awareness

We want everyone to feel comfortable at the camp

Awareness is a concept that opposes all forms of discrimination, violence and boundary violations. Offensive and transgressive behavior, such as sexist, racist, anti-Semitic, queer-hostile, ableist, classist or similar assaults are not tolerated at the System Change Camp.

The exact details of our awareness concept are still being worked out and will be published here at least 4 weeks before the event.

As an awareness team, we offer concrete support to people affected by discrimination. However, we do NOT (or cannot) provide conflict management, dispute resolution or therapeutic work, for example. We can only create a safe space together and each and every one of us is responsible for ensuring that this succeeds. So be mindful when dealing with other camp participants and, if possible, inform yourself in advance about possible forms of discrimination.

There will also be a variety of workshops on awareness-related topics at the camp, for example on anti-discrimination, critical masculinity or critical whiteness. You are also welcome to ask for further resources at the awareness tent – because we are all never done learning.

Information on anti-discrimination

Please speak to everyone at the camp in German first

Unless people are actively speaking another language – even if you suspect that this person may not speak German. You cannot deduce which language a person can speak from their appearance. Hold back if you feel curious about the origin or identity behind a person’s appearance. People can decide for themselves what and when they want to reveal something personal about themselves and don’t need presumptions to do so.

Check-In group

We want to collectivize awareness work. The plan is that people can meet in the morning in so-called check-in groups. In the check-in group, we want to check in with each other and see what the individual people need and how they can be supported in the group. In the event of conflicts, boundary violations or criticism of someone’s behavior, the people in the check-in group should take responsibility for this and offer the necessary support in the event of assaults and boundary violations. The check-in group should also take responsibility if people within the check-in group notice or report behavior that violates boundaries or assaults. To this end, the check-in groups should talk to each other and get in touch with each other.
You don’t have to find a check-in group yourself, you can simply draw a number with a location and meet up with the other people from your group in the morning.

Awareness tent

You can get further important information at the info point or at the awareness tent. You can also send us feedback, questions and remarks about our awareness work by email to – gladly also after the camp. We will then evaluate and reflect on these after the camp.
