Performance “Made in Germany” – German weapons, global traces of violence

While a war of annihilation rages in Gaza, empires renegotiate their borders in Ukraine, and the colonial legacy continues to bleed in Sudan, one thing remains constant: German shrapnel strikes everywhere.
The arms trade does not kill by accident. It kills deliberately. Systemically. And it is also called Made in Germany. The group in exile named itself after a text of the same name by Ali Fathi, in which he described his memories of his treatment at the Moabit Clinic in 1985. This led to the founding of the performance collective DRANG in May 2022, after its members became acquainted with Fathi, his text, and his transgenerational, anti-racist approach.
DRANG describes itself as follows:
“We belong to a generation that did not witness the cultural revolution in Iran – or rather, the revolution against culture – but suffers from its traumatic aftermath in historical transmission. We asked ourselves questions, paused, reflected – and began with the play ‘Made in Germany’.”
